Although some would say YHWH is pronounced as Jehovah and others, Yahweh – one could never be certain as to how it was really pronounced as ancient Hebrews didn’t even utter the word out of reverence. So it was said to have been lost in time.
Rob Bell, however, had a rather beautiful way of pronouncing it.
By simply breathing.
Y (exhale), H (inhale), W (exhale) and H (inhale).
If Bell is right, and I believe he is, then how does this relate to me?
Well, it sure will dispel all doubts I used to have on whether I could pray unceasingly or not. If by simply breathing, I utter the name of a God who spoke the universe into existence, then that is more than enough for a prayer. When I look back in my life and what I have been through I find that the most powerful of prayers I had were not the most eloquent. Most were just a word short – Jesus. That wonderful name.
Then it will impact the workaholic in me. Now, when I hear myself say “I’m so busy, I could hardly breathe,” I could pause for a moment and ponder about what I am really saying and what I really mean by that statement.
And oddly enough, it will change the way I see those who call themselves atheists. It’s just a thought but I think I wouldn’t know how to react when I see someone who vehemently denies His existence and yet call out His name – all under one breath.
